Hair Weave Stylist in Chicago?

Postby reeko43 » Mon May 23, 2011 6:41 pm

Hair Weave Stylist in Chicago? Does anyone know of a hair weave specialist in Chicago? After reading some of the posts, I became interested in the lace braiding method. I currently have a sew in now. I'm struggling with the tightness that a sew- in provide. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

she doesn't have a site. but if you're in the area i'm sure she wouldn't mind to have you stop by during an install to inspect her work (or after, depending on the client).

I have a friend who works out of her house (reasonable prices and she will travel)
My aunt gets sew-in from a lady names Kiesha in Alsip
Shanton's Creations (91st Stony Island)
Pretty Lady Salon (84th Stony Island)
When you say lace braids do you mean the individual ones or the cornrowed ones (also called interlock and treebraids)?

I'm glad that you ladies started this topic. I am in search of someone who know what they are doing. I ran into a girl that did a good job when out in the burbs. I put her number in the phone wrong and now I can't get in touch with but her name is Vivian and she is in a shop in Harvey. When I saw her was wearing some hair that she had been wearing for 2 months and it still looked real good and she had it layered real nice.Joie, I have been to Shanton's for interlocking( tree braids) and Renee does an okay job for the price, though I don't like how she cuts. I have never let her do a sew-in but by looking at her own hair I don't think that it would be natural looking.

I have been pondering on who I could go to and get a good sew-in weave in the Chicago area. I was reminded by the guy who arches my eyebrows about this young lady who works in the shop my stylist has since moved from. I have always admired her weaves and the weaves of her clients. I was real impressed the first time I saw her create a wig with some BSS weave, layer it, style it and then put it on her head! It was really cute! She is also an excellent braider. I made an appointment for the 21st. This will be my first sew-in. I am going to order the EP relaxed textured. I will keep you ladies posted of how my "hair" turns out.

I was busy this week-end just geting back on the board. Thank you so much Ren for Viv's info. Yep that is the person that I am talking about. She is real good she did a good job on my hair in the past and the weave that she was wearing looked like it was growing out of her head. Now I'm torn. My regular stylist wants to do my sew-in but I have not seen any of her sew ins, but this wwee4k-end she did a bonded weave on me and I must say that my bf hasn't even caught on yet . Decisions, Decisions, I,m leaning toward Viv.I just don't know what to tell my Girl. It's not like I can just get my weave done and not see her again. I take my 13 year -old there to get hair done every other week. Byt the her shop is called T-biz off of 83rd and Stony.

I found the best guy in Chicago. He has his own shop on 95th. The shop is called Clarke's African braiding. I have a sew-in now for about 3 months with Adorable hair. It still looks fierce. He can do all types of weaving. Trust me I have spent thousands looking for a good weave in Chicago and he is the best I had by far.

Now we have options which is good. Foxy about how much does Clarke charge? I know that Vivian is pretty reasonable around $125.00 is the price that she quoted me. Ren what type of hair is that you are wearing. Is it Beverly Johnson? Viv did do a real nice job on your hair from what I can see in the pic. I know she is good with straight hair, too. I am going to call my other girl at T-bizz today and find out about how much she charges. I know that price is not the most important factor, ( a natural looking weave is ) but if they all are capable of doing a good job-it might just be the tie breaker. I spoke with Viv and a wash , deep condition, and cut are included in her price. Like I said I saw her hair and I know that she can cut. I may just have to tell my regular stylist that my cousin did my hair when I take my daughter to the shop.

I have a great stylist who I can refer. She expecting a baby so I would try and call her soon if you are interested. PM me for her info.
I think one thing that most people don't consider when getting weaves done is that it is a combination of things that make a weave look naturally yours.
1. Quality hair
2. Talented Stylist who understands weaves, hair and braiding patterns
3. The ability to manage, care and style the hair yourself to make it your own.
4. Maintain the integrity of your natural hair in the process
I think many people rely to much on the stylist and the hair comes out screaming WEAVE!!LOL I think a good stylist uses her expertise as well as listens to what you the clients needs and desires are.
I've posted several pics of styles that I have gotten (which sometimes seem to be repetitiveLOL..so if you do a search on my name you can find pictures of her work.

I just LUV the new style in your avitar. Do tell....what kind of hair is it (indian, curly, bodywave ????) Also, I may need to use your stylist (she is in Chicago right?) I want the EXACT style you have....which I am assuming is a full sew in...right. I have been just gluing in my tracks but now I want a full sew in for the winter. I don't think I can braid my hair myself.. SO, I would be willing to pay for a good install and cut!

Can you provide the name of the stylist? What happened to the pics you promised? Tongue Would love to see your hair.
I'm suprised to hear that you had a bad experience w/ EP. I have called them several times w/questions and they have been very helpful. They even sent me a sample of the hair- free of charge- even though I am not a stylist. The EP hair is gorgeous but expensive so I would love to hear about your current install.

I should get my pics up soon after I get them developed.

your roller set is beautiful. Which hot rollers did you use? I have the Caruso brand, but haven't had the time to really try them out.

Tey are conair hot rollers that I got from Target. The ones that I bought say jumbo so they are all the large size rollers and there are only maybe 12 of them. I am thinking about returning them and getting the ones that have a variety of roller sizes and more rollers. It took me forever to do that cause I had to take some rollers out and let them reheat. And then it was night so I pincurled it so I wouldn't have to try to sleep w/rollers. It was cure but I don't know when I'll feel like doing that again.

Did you go to Annie (referred by CurlyAddiction)? If so, how was the experience? How much did she charge you? Did you get a full sew-in or something else?

thanks for giving me the # of the stylist in Atlanta that did your style that is in your avitar. I've decided to use Chief's stylist in Chicago for my install. (Thanks again Chief for your help!) - She did a great job on Chief's hair. (Weavehappy- you should check out Chief's pixs.) Hopefully, my hair will turn out just as nice. The appt. is Tuesday- can't wait!
